Volunteering

Why Volunteer

Volunteers are the life blood of any community centre and at HCA we have over one hundred volunteers supporting us contributing over five hundred hours of their time annually. Volunteering is a great way to acquire new skills and get back into employment while doing something amazing for your local community. Whether you’re looking to spruce up your CV, meet new people or just get involved in your neighbourhood we have volunteer role for you.

That could be administration and reception support, befriending and supporting older people, after-school arts activities assistant or helping with our social enterprise ‘Holborn Community Cooks’

A Case Study: Sarah’s Story

I have nothing but positive things to say about HCA. Initially, I became involved by reaching out to Kate regarding the Befriending scheme and from the start, my support from Kate was warm, welcoming and kind. After interacting with her I knew this was an organization I would like to be more involved in.  As well as Befriending, Kate introduced me to the Media Arts Club, part of the Digital Media Project. I began volunteering weekly through this club – the sessions were taught by professional artists, the calibre of teachers was impressive and the staff’s ability to keep all engaged looked effortless.

Overall, I have consistently been impressed with the HCA’s engagement with the community and their ability to reach people of all ages and backgrounds. Being a part of HCA has made me feel a part of the community.
