Millman Street Garden Bed Revamp

Chris Oakley has been working on the community garden in the Millman Street Centre to give it some more life. He and his team have made a new raised garden bed constructed from recycled wood.

The heavy rains in December finally caused an old wooden raised bed in the Community garden to collapse. So, we decided to replace it with a newly built raised bed which we built ourselves.

The new garden bed has a sloped interior to provide better drainage, and the wood is protected with an interior plastic lining plus a permeable lining to hold the compost but allow good drainage. The legs had to be made dismountable to enable it to be carried out of the workshop. With five coats of wood preservative and paint, to make it durable. From funds raised from the recent sale of spider plants grown in the garden, they were able to stock the new bed with a variety of colourful spring bedding plants. It provides a welcome addition to the wonderful garden to brighten up the dull days.

Thanks to Chris and his team for brightening up our centre!
