Meet our fundraisers: Millman Street Movers and Makers

Millman Street Community Centre encourage healthy living, bringing people together and providing intensive support for over 55’s with greater need.  This year staff and members are coming together to take on various 101 fundraising challenges.  Older People’s Services Manager Andrew gives us a run-through of all the fantastic fundraising efforts of the Millman Street Movers and Makers!

“One of the challenges has been thinking of interesting and different ideas for the challenges. We will be inviting friends, family, carers and our partners to make donations to our Just Giving page or to make the donations in person to the centre.  The members at Millman Street enjoy coming to the Day Centre and participating in physical activities.  So they have risen to the HCA 101 Challenge in different ways to help keep everyone in our community moving.”

What we are doing

David Sexton is walking around the Day Centre and the garden 101 times, so far he has completed 26 laps.

Staff member Sarah is helping Millman Street members Almendra and David to make 101 seasonal cards that they will be selling to raise funds (if you’re interested in buying a Christmas Card get in touch).

The Millman Street Runners will be completing a 101 relaying race in the Day Centre on the 15th of December.

Community Link Worker Naomi Nehemen will be doing her own challenge cycling 101 miles around London over the course of the campaign.  Senior Careworker Steve Lugard will be doing 101 press-ups.  I will be walking to and from Millman Street, covering 101 miles.  Careworker Sarah will be riding her scooter around Regents Park for 101 minutes.

Finally, Akademi South Asian Dance Over 55s group has been learning and performing 101 Kathak dance movements and the Tai Chi Over 55s class have been learning and practising 101 Tai Chi movements.
