Bedford House construction work carries on

Amongst everything that’s been going on this 2020, we are glad to share the Bedford House construction work carries on! We are still on course for reopening in the Spring of 2021.

Having completed demolition and the basement works, the team have started to build the centre back up with brickwork and steelwork going in to support our new roof.

Currently, we are still planning for completion in February 2021.  Once we’ve settled in, we’ll be relaunching all our old activities, alongside a host of new ones from Easter next year.

The HCA team behind the scenes are busy planning the new building’s activities as well as what should be inside it. We think it deserves new chairs, mats, and decor in the new space for you to enjoy.

Engaging the wider sections of the community with this design work is also being planned (probably in the new year) as well as seeking ideas for our programmes.  Our Board has created a subgroup to start guiding the programme creation and we will be in touch soon to see how we can get everyone involved.

On a recent visit to see the progression of the building Stefan, the site manager told us “the main roof will be on soon, most of the joists are in place and the shape of a building is starting to take shape, it’s going to be a completely new building.  There have been lots of weird and wonderful things we’ve been discovering in rebuilding Bedford House too, like mysterious old pipes!”

A big thanks as well to the supporters of the public artwork that will be on the front of the building – all the funds for that have now been raised and we’ll share images for the new frontage soon.
