Community Projects

Our aim is always to help Holborn help itself.  Complimenting our wider provision we plan to expand on our current community outreach programme – we’ve worked over the last year to engage and consult with the community at large as well as targeting particular groups, identifying their needs and working with them to find solutions which are effective for them.

We will continue to focus on the most vulnerable – the older members of the BAME community (Bangladeshi, Somali, Indian, Nepali, etc.), long-term carers and ex-carers, and on children with low levels of academic achievement through reasons of isolation from the wider community.

At the same time we recognise that our outreach work needs to work harder to bring groups together and act as a bridge between different elements of the community – we’ve seen aspiration and resilience grow when these links are made and we want to nuture them throughout the community

We will develop our services further using resources already available locally, and build on existing methods that have already made a significant positive difference in peoples’ lives. These will include (but not be limited to):

  • Community-led education clubs bringing volunteers from the local corporate community together with children and families and using local estate venues (taking support to the community)
  • Engaging isolated individuals and communities in existing fitness and activity clubs and delivering specific sessions that meet their needs (engaging the wider community in services they already use)
  • A community events programme brining individuals and community groups together to celebrate cultural diversity in our area, link individuals to services that will benefit them and give them an opportunity to have their say on local issues (bringing the community together)
  • A multilateral outreach programme including bilingual leafleting, home visits, and focus groups at different venues, to engage different parts of the community, and to identify services that will address needs identified at these sessions.
