Volunteering FAQ.

How long will it take to start volunteering?
Our aim is to get you started a quickly as possible. However, in order to make your involvement an enjoyable and safe experience, you will have to go through our recruitment procedure. This involves an informal interview, provision of two character references/police checks and your introductory training. On average, this will take a few weeks, but varies with the individual situation.
Can volunteering help me to get a paid job?
Volunteering can provide you with new and improved skills, experience and personal benefits, such as increased confidence, which can assist you in your job search. If you are looking to get a paid job by volunteering, it can help you to think about the skills your future job will require and then choose your role accordingly.
How long will I be expected to volunteer for?
This varies from a one-off project for as little as one day to 6 months or more for befriending. However long or short, we ask that you are reliable in your commitment.
How many hours will I have to do?
There is no standard commitment in terms of hours per week. It all depends on the project you are volunteering with. Some volunteer roles require set time commitments, other roles are more flexible and can be organised around your availability. We endeavour to be as flexible as possible as we really appreciate your support and dedication.
Do I need qualifications to volunteer?
As a community service provider we are committed to excellence wherever possible. Qualifications are not always required. Volunteering is about learning new skills and trying out something new and so we place great emphasis on reliability and a genuine interest in the type of work we offer. It is also about what we can give back to you and how you can take these skills forward into the rest of your life. We will provide the necessary training and support to enable you to fulfil your role. There are, however, some roles that require a high degree of skills and expertise such as fundraising and consultancy.
