The project provides a wide range of activities that enable those aged over 55 to stay in good health, keep active socially and physically and remain independent for as long as possible. All our activities are informal and friendly with no previous experience or knowledge required to take part. Most are taught by qualified or experienced tutors, whilst a few are run by our own members.
The regular programme includes Gardening, Oriental Dance, Play reading, Yoga, Singing, Women’s Exercise, Painting & Drawing, Salsa, Line Dancing, Tai Chi, Cook & Eat and Photography. In addition many short projects, outings and special events take place throughout the year.
The majority of the activities take place at Millman Street Resource Centre, some at Bedford House and occasionally at other accessible venues in the Holborn area.
Activities are free. Priority is given to Camden residents and those from neighbouring boroughs.
The project also holds regular forum meetings to discuss ‘what’ and ‘how’ activities are run - all participants are welcome to join and contribute to this vibrant project.
The Over 55s project is currently funded by the City Bridge Trust and the Henry Smith Charity.
“It’s so good to take part in an activity that inspires and challenges....It takes my mind of my troubles....These classes help me feel young and alive and stay positive....I feel more upbeat after the class than before…and I walk home from class far easier than I walk to it!....My body has improved so much mentally and physically since doing these classes.
